This piece was commissioned by the Hoepfner-Stiftung in Karlsruhe, Germany.

Balsa was premiered January 2017 by Mayumi Miyata (shō), Ayumi Nakamura (clarinet), Minori Hayashi (double bass) and Yasuaki Itakura (conductor) at the Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo, Japan, as part of a collaboration project between the japanese college y and the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. We had the opportunity of attending the premiere, together with a small team of musical journalists from our school in Karlsruhe. They documented the experience in following video:
